I have been working in stone since 1990 developing my craft of handcarving in Scotland. Based at my purpose-built studio at the edge of a wood in Glenfarg, Perthshire, I create bespoke stone carvings predominantly from British slate, sandstone & limestone. I specialise in commissioned pieces for individuals and organisations looking for unique, long-lasting quality work. These include memorials and headstones, lettercutting and stone signage, fireplaces and sculpture. Through the evolving dialogue of the commissioning process, I seek to realise with sensitivity and understanding my clients’ wishes. Through my long-standing association with Memorials by Artists, I became a founding member of the Scottish Lettercutters Association in 2000. In 2005 I was awarded a QEST Scholarship to study copy carving and clay modelling under Marc Chevalier–Lacombe near Orleans in France. In 2008 I won the JD Fergusson Trust Arts Travel Award which enabled me to realise my ambition to travel to Carrara, Italy to learn specific marble carving techniques. Increasingly I make small pieces for exhibitions at the Scottish Gallery and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. I now teach, running courses for the public and training young stonecarvers and lettercutters.
