I've been working with stone for 49 years. Starting as a dry-stone dyker, leading on to masoning architectural details, carving restoration pieces for Cathedrals, making sculpture and carving gravestones. For the last 40 years my work has been predominantly making gravestones. I attempt to create unique memorials that reflect the individuality of the person commemorated. This involves a close co-operation with family members, which I find both a privilege and a source of creativity. A passion for stone, a love of letterforms, a personal relationship to bereavement, a deep appreciation of individual life stories, add up to making my work very satisfying.
