I trained in sculpture at Camberwell and Byam Shaw Art Schools in London and have since studied lettering with a variety of teachers. All my work is based in lettering and while most is made to commission, it is really important to me to be engaged in independent projects.

The start of each piece is always in developing an understanding of an idea through drawing combined with exploring some of the textural and formal possibilities of wood, stone and metal. An extraordinary alchemy takes place as the idea is finally realised in a carved, three dimensional form.

I was very fortunate to live in Italy for one year where I was able to spend a great deal of time studying some of the fantastic examples of the developing history of western lettering. This and much other art, particularly twentieth century sculpture, is a huge influence in my work.
